Arabic numerals copied from a document converted into Eastern Arabic numerals when pasting in another document having Arabic numerals Solved

Arabic numerals copied from a document converted into Eastern Arabic numerals when pasting in another document having Arabic numerals Solved

Arabic numerals copied from a document converted into Eastern Arabic numerals when pasting in another document having Arabic numerals

Hi,

My MS Office 2007 is Arabic version.
However, when I have tried copying the content of a word file (degrees for Êstudents written in Arabic numerals, from 0 - 9).
But while pasting those degrees in another document also having degrees written in ÊArabic
numerals 0 to 9, I found that the degrees Êpasted were converted intoÊEastern Arabic numerals.Ê(? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?).
However, the other degrees in theÊoriginalÊdocument to which I pasted
were still inÊArabic numerals .
Also, the content (degrees) in the document from which I copied were still in ÊArabic numerals.
Is this line problem?
This is the procedure I have followed.
1- I have created a word document ona Microsoft Office 2010 English Version installed on my laptop whose system is Windows 7.
Only the degrees of students of that document were written in ÊArabic
numerals, from (0 - 9).
2- I have another word document created on a Microsoft Office 2007 Arabic Version installed on another laptop whose system is Windows XP.
Only the degrees of students of that documents were
written inÊArabic numerals, from (0 - 9).
3- I copied a copy of that document created in the step one and pasted it in a FlashDrive.
Then, I have plugged the FlashDrive to another laptop, and I opened both the Word files on the other laptop and tried copying the degrees from the file created in
the Microsoft Office 2010 English Version and pasted them to the contents(degrees) of that word document created on a Microsoft Office 2007 Arabic Version .
4- I found that the degrees pasted intoÊword document created on a Microsoft Office 2007 Arabic Version converted intoÊEastern Arabic numerals*(? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?).
However, the original degrees
previously written on that word document created in Microsoft Office 2007ÊÊwere still written in ÊArabic numerals (0- 9).
ÊOnly the new degrees pasted converted intoÊEastern Arabic numerals.

Also, in Microsoft Office 2010 English Version installed on my laptop whose system is Windows 7,ÊI have another problem which is that when I write numbers, such as in Date, I find Êthat the numbers are only written inÊArabic
numerals (0- 9), although that the input language is Arabic.
How can I control over Ênumbers.
ÊIf I want to convert theÊArabic numerals (0- 9) written in the date inside a Word document into Eastern Arabic numerals*(?
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?), how will I do?

Hello

Word is the only application in Office (Arabic Office or English Office with Arabic support) that has the capability of changing the
look of the numbers (whether Arabic Numerals or Eastern Arabic Numerals [called Hindi in Word]) according to criteria set by the user.
In Word 2010, go to File > Options > Advanced, and scroll down to section "Show document content".
In front
of "Numeral:" you have four options.
If you choose "Context", the numbers will appear Arabic if the context is Left-to-Right (LTR) as in English, and will appear Eastern Arabic (Hindi) if the context is RTL for Arabic.
If you choose Arabic, all numbers will
appear Arabic for both contexts; and will appear Eastern Arabic if you choose Hindi.

I guess that the "Numeral:" of your Word 2010 is set to Arabic.
Change it to "context" to see Eastern Arabic Numerals in your Arabic paragraphs.
But please note the following: If you copy this document to another computer that has "Arabic" as Numeral in Word,
those very numbers will appear Arabic, even in an Arabic paragraph.Ê

Regarding the first problem, since numbers are appearing Arabic AND Eastern Arabic, this
could mean that the "Numeral:" in your Word 2007 is set to Context and the copied numbers are pasted in a RTL paragraph while the original numbers are in LTR paragraphs.

So you need to change your setting according to what you want.
If the problem persists, it would be helpful if you upload the target document for us to check (after removing any sensitive information and names).

To check for Windows updates. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer. If any updates are found, click Install updates.

Install the latest updates for Windows and for the program displaying the error. Note that the update for the program might be listed as an optional update on the Windows Update page.

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.

Manually editing the Windows registry

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Incorrectly editing your registry can stop your PC from functioning and create irreversible damage to your operating system. In fact, one misplaced comma can prevent your PC from booting entirely!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (eg. Windows Operating System):

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
  • While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
  • You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
  • Click Yes.
  • A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
  • Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
  • In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
  • From the File menu, choose Export.
  • In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
  • In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
  • In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
  • Click Save.
  • The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
  • You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.

10 ways IoT is making successful inroads into business

10 ways IoT is making successful inroads into business

The Internet of Things is finding its way into a host of industries, from transportation to health care to factory maintenance.

hero

Many companies are still engaged in proofs of concept to see where the Internet of Things (IoT) can bring value to their operations and strategies, but a number of IoT apps have already taken root in a cross-section of industry sectors and are producing favorable business impact. Here are 10 good examples.

1: Transportation infrastructure

The insertion of sensors at key points of highways and railways is enabling cities to monitor the wellness of their transportation infrastructures, along with events like traffic flow and congestion. The information these IoT sensors send back to headquarters is used to notify motorists of heavy congestion points and alternate routes. It also serves as a predictive means of showing where equipment failures are imminent, so repair crews can be dispatched to fix vulnerable equipment before actual failures (and traffic stoppages) result.

2: Safety of sensitive goods during transport

Foodstuffs and medical supplies often require stringent temperature and humidity controls during storage and shipment. To facilitate climate control, logistics companies use environmentally controlled, sealed containers. The containers are equipped with sensors that emit status reports to a central network so they can be monitored for adherence to humidity and temperature controls. If the environmentals within a container begin to fail or if tampering with a closed container seal is detected, the sensors immediately send out alerts to the central network so appropriate steps can be taken. The use of IoT reduces spoilage of sensitive goods and also prevents tampering.

3: Logistics tracking and performance

Major logistics carriers now use trucks that are sensor equipped so shipments can be tracked along routes, optimum delivery routes can be used, and timeliness can be tracked. In some cases, sensors are also used to track speeds, braking habits, etc., of drivers to ensure that the safest and most environmentally friendly driving practices are used.

4: Equipment diagnostics and preventive maintenance on the factory floor

As manufacturers adopt new 21st century practices, equipment within the factory is being outfitted with sensors that automatically flash an alert into the central factory operations monitoring network when a weakening component or other failure-inducing condition is detected. In this way, manufacturers can take a machine offline, reroute manufacturing operations and repair the faulty equipment before a total failure occurs that stops production.

5: Smart street lights

Street lights with IoT capability now "communicate" with city utility managers who are miles away, sending IoT data on energy usage and enabling remote adjustments to lighting to compensate for local environmental conditionsÑsuch as dimming the lights on a moonlit night or increasing lighting during rainstorms and fog. The ability to climate-adjust street lighting economizes energy usage and reduces energy costs.

6: Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)

Aerial drones equipped with IoT sensors are being used by oil and gas exploration companies, mining companies, and agribusiness to chart and monitor remote, difficult to access areas and to measure elements such as soil composition and moisture content. The ability to perform these operations remotely saves field time and reduces the safety risk incurred when personnel are dispatched to remote and uncharted areas.

7: Inventory tracking during shipment

In areas of the world where the theft of inventory from trucks in transit for sale on the black market is widespread, transportation companies are attaching IoT sensors to packages and are making the practice known to locals. In one case, a transporter reported that the theft rate had fallen from 50% of inventory to 4% after IoT sensors were installed.

8: Home and business energy monitoring

Homeowners and companies are employing environmental energy monitoring with the help of IoT sensors. The devices assist them in controlling energy consumptionÑwhether it be for an individual home, a business, or a data center.

9: Mobile device tracking

In 2014 alone, more than 10 million mobile devices were lost in the UK. The worldwide total of lost or stolen mobile devices is undoubtedly staggering. Enter IoT sensors that can be activated on these devices to at least prevent data breachesÑand to possibly facilitate device retrievals.

10: Safety monitoring/tracking of Alzheimers patients

Individuals suffering from Alzheimers or other mentally debilitating disorders can now be tracked via IoT sensors in case they leave the home and cant find their way back. In addition, IoT sensors can serve as a safety net for potentially dangerous situations. For example they can be attached to stove gas burners in case a burner is turned on and left unattended.

A security expert said he could hack into San Franciscos 35 000 police drones from a mile away

A security expert said he could hack into San Franciscos 35 000 police drones from a mile away

SkyRanger Drone

Think drones are scary? Then you might not like the notion of hackable $35,000 police drones flying in your airspace.

Unfortunately, that notion is something of a reality Ñ at least according to one hacker who says heÕs capable of commandeering a very expensive, very high-tech quadcopter from over a mile away.

On WednesdayÕs RSA security conference in San Francisco, security researcher Nils Rodday revealed a number of rather alarming flaws in the cityÕs advanced, police-grade unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that make it possible for him Òto take full control over the quadcopter with just a laptop and a cheap radio chip connected via USB.Ó

Due to the absence of any sort of encryption technology between the drone and its controller (called a Òtelemetry box,Ó), taking over one of these UAVs isnÕt a particularly complicated process. In fact, if youÕre able to reverse engineer the flight software, youÕre able to completely hijack the quadcopter, sending your own controls while blocking all signals from the legitimate operator.

ÒYou can inject packets and alter waypoints, change data on the flight computer, set a different coming home position,Ó Rodday says. ÒEverything the original operator can do, you can do as well.Ó

So whatÕs leading to this massive security flaw? Rodday has narrowed it down to two primary culprits Ñ the weak ÒWEPÓ or Òwired-equivalent privacyÓ encryption used to connect the telemetry module and a userÕs tablet, and even worse, the incredibly insecure encryption (or lack thereof) that connects the telemetry model to the UAV itself.

Rodday, who now works at IBM, has since informed drone manufacturers to the breaches heÕs uncovered, and tells Wired that the company plans to address the issue when it updates its line of drones. But that means that the UAVs already on the market are fair game for hacking, and from quite a distance at that.

This is by no means the first time that the security of such drones has been called into question. A few years ago in 2013, Samy Kamkar, a hacker in his own right, showed how his homemade Raspberry Pi equipped drone could be used to hack into other drones mid-flight. The vast majority of the problems he discovered, he said, were contingent on insecure Wi-Fi connections. ÒItÕs all the same story: really poor authentication or no authentication,Ó Kamkar told Wired.

So before drones can be used by police, they need to be secured. Because nothing could be worse than a gun-equipped UAV that has been taken over by malicious hackers.
