7 Easy Ways to Restore Your Computer‰Ûªs Health

Is your PC under par? Does it take longer to log on and load websites then it used to? Are your programs crashing more often then Evil Knieval used to?

If the answers yes to all of these questions, then itÕs time to give your computer a new lease of life. But weÕre not talking drastic measures like buying a new one, as there are a few fixes you can do yourself (or with the help of an expert) that will restore your computer to its former glory. HereÕs how you can perk up your PC.

1. Install tune-up software

The quickest and easiest way to restore your PC to health is to install a free registry cleaner thatÕll tune things up. In fact, some programs wonÕt just return your computer to its regular speed; theyÕll even turbo-charge it for you so youÕll have a boost of power when you need it the most.

As well as running at normal speed, your system will crash less and have more disk space available. YouÕll probably even notice improvements in battery life too.

2. Back up your computer

Before you carry out any maintenance or make any changes to how your computer works, back it up first. Backing up is when you create a copy of your current system onto an external device or disk, such as an external hard drive or a writable DVD or CD.

As well as backing up before making any changes to your system, itÕs wise to regularly make a copy of your files. After all, some of the information on your computer, like family photos, may be impossible to replace if it was deleted. After youÕve backed up, you can then remove any large files that you donÕt use regularly (like mp3 files or high-res images), this should help free some disk space and speed up your system.

3. Uninstall programs you no longer use

Another easy way to free up some space on your hard disk is to uninstall programs that are out of date or that you never use. This could include pre-installed software or trial versions of programs you no longer use. If you browse online with Chrome or Firefox you might also consider removing Internet Explorer too.

To check for programs you donÕt need, firstly click on the Start button and choose Programs and Features. Google any program names that you donÕt recognise. After all, you donÕt want to delete anything thatÕs vital for running the system. Removing the icon from your desktop does not delete the program. YouÕll need to uninstall it via the Programs and Features menu you navigated to above.

4. Clean up your hard disk

Deleting large files youÕve backed up and programs you donÕt use will provide you with extra space on your hard disk, but you can probably clear even more junk than that. Cached and temporary files, for example, will also be using up valuable chunks of memory.

Fortunately there is a program already installed on your PC that can clear these for you. Disk Cleanup will search your drive for unwanted data and then either remove it, or simply identify it so you can decide whether or not to get rid of it. If you use your computer a lot, itÕs a good idea to run Disk Cleanup regularly. Set it as a weekly scheduled task and prevent your computer from slowing down drastically again in the future.

5. Update your software

Older versions of software or operating systems will make your computer run slower as additional security fixes (often called patches) and add-ons reduce computing speed. Updating to newer versions should help to improve the speed of your PC, as well as the security of your set-up too.

If youÕre running Office 2003 or Windows XP, then you should definitely consider upgrading to a newer version. From 8th April 2014, these programs will no longer be supported by Microsoft, leaving users more open to risks from hackers than before.

6. Scan you computer for viruses

Viruses and malware (malicious software) may well be to blame if your computerÕs running slowly or performing strangely. As well as preventing your computer from working as normal, they could be gathering your information or even planning to steal your identity.

Running anti-virus software will not only identify and get rid of any viruses youÕve managed to pick up; itÕll also help to keep your computer clean in the future. So both your computer and the information on it will be safe from harm.

7. Defrag and check for disk errors

If youÕve done all of the above and your computerÕs still not performing as it should, then it may be necessary to defrag the hard drive and then check it for disk errors. Both of these tasks are slightly more complicated however, and youÕre only advised to carry them out if youÕre a competent PC trouble-shooter. If youÕre not, then this is the time to call in the experts.

Logged on and my computer.ÊIt went to blue screen with an error message.
Before I could write it down, it rebooted and kept going to "black and white "windows did not close properly".
When it finally rebooted the language is different.
System Restore will not function nor can IÊread it because the language has changed.
It wont allow me to access "date/time/language" options or" system restore" in the control panel.
It wont open all programs from the start/ all programs menu.
Any access toÊsystem restore or languages are blocked.
I disconnected the DSL/Lan and ran the MRT.
It found no problem.
As a precautionary measure Im remaining disconnected.

All contacts gone after Yosemite upgrade! How to restore original contacts from Time Machine Backup

If you have upgraded your OS X from Mavericks to Yosemite or from any other version of OS X to OS X 10.10 Yosemite and you check your Contacts/Address Book after upgrade and shockingly you find out that all your contacts are gone and the Address Book is blank and you had also not taken backup on iCloud.

Yes, there is a way to restore Address Book content from a Time Machine backup. However, itÕs important to note that Address Book data is used by many applications throughout OS X, so before we begin, make sure to quit all open applications to minimize the possibility of introducing problems.

Steps to restore Address Book content from a Time Machine backup

1.  To begin, Disable iCloud sync in System Configuration -> iCloud -> Uncheck Contacts.

2.  Now weÕll need to show hidden files in the Finder because the Library folder on the Time Machine drive (as on your Mac) is hidden by default. To do this, open Terminal (located in Applications/Utilities) and type in the following command followed by the enter key (Note: you can re-hide hidden Finder files by replacing ÒTRUEÓ with ÒFALSEÓ and re-running the command below):

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

Next, restart the Finder by typing the following command: 

killall Finder

3. Now open the Address Book contents of your current OS X 10.10 Yosemite by navigating to the following location

~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook

4. Enter the time Machine Backup then Go to ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook and replace the contents of this folder with the same folder in on your Mac and you are Done.

5. Copy the entire contents of the Address Book folder from the backup and overwrite the contents of this folder on your system drive.

Once the copy is complete, relaunch Address Book and you should see your contacts listed, current as of the date of your last backup.

6. If Time Machine is not on your side today and you just upgraded MacOS like me look for a file like ÒMigration 20150631213806-3786.abbu.tbzÓ. Every time Contacts migrates to a new version of the App there is a file like this containing a complete backup of all your contacts. Uncompress this file by double-clicking it and double-click the .abbu file to replace everything in your Address Book with the backed up contacts in this file.

7. Enable iCloud Contacts syncing again to sync the contact to all of your devices.

Note:-  If you find that all the contacts are gone after closing and reopening the Contacts application then just delete the AddressBook-v22.abcddb and its helper files?

Those are the index files that drive the display. If the one you are copying is corrupt, it may be causing the problems you see.

Deleting those database files solves a majority of the problems with Contacts App.
